OM 100-4095 ADMINISTRATIVE DATA They were discussing the forth coming Progressive Party State Convention and OTTO continued to refer to those present as Comrade. OTTO said that [blank box] of the YPA in Iowa City had quite a few members and they would be present at the State convention. b7C The main part of the discussion centered around the State Board meeting of the Progressive Party and it was decided by those present that EDNA would become State Chairman of the Progressive Party. It will be noted that she was subsequently elected State Chairman. OTTO also advised that EDNA, [blank box] and himself could not all take their vacations at once as one of them should be present in Des Moines at all times. OTTO stated that he would be gone the last three weeks in July, [blank box] took his vacation in June and EDNA is to take hers in August, 1952. b2 b7C b7D On June 15, 1952, OTTO told [blank box] that he is to help EDNA to check the Iowa statutes in order to get the Progressive Party on the Ballot. [blank box] On Wednesday, June 118, 1952, when [blank box] was at the home of the subject, EDNA told him that she had been there to [blank box] [blank box] the night before and that there was a lawyer there by the name of [blank box] the Southern Council of Human Welfare and this lawyer was going to defend a boy from Columbus, Nebraska in a draft dodging case. EDNA said that [blank box] had decided to defend the boy on the basis of the Nuremburg trial declaring war is a crime. b2 b7C b7D On the same day, [blank box] and EDNA were engaged in drawing up resolutions for the Progressive Party of Iowa. On June 13, 1952, OTTO had said that the two main issued for the Progressive Party were Negro rights and peace. Information received from Los Angeles under date of April 24, 1952 reflected that the name [blank box] [blank box] which appeared in the address book of the subject, was undoubtedly [blank box] [blank box] who resides at [blank box] California. Los Angeles advised that [blank box] is a key figure. b7C -6-
