OM 100-4095 and a violation of their civil liberties. [ ] stated that EDNA GRIFFIN has threatened to sue the dance studio but that nothing has been done so far. [ ] stated that subject stated on January 5, 1954 that she had obtained a group of colored ministers to go as a group to Iowa State Penitentiary at Fort Madison, Iowa, for the purpose of protesting to the warden about the discrimination against Negroes in the granting of paroles. b2 b7D [ ] informed that he has never heard EDNA GRIFFIN state that she is a member of the Communist Party, USA. He stated he has heard her mention that she is the head of the " Party" but he advised he interpreted this to mean the Progressive Party of Iowa of Henry Wallace. He stated subject takes the Daily Worker. The Daily Worker is an east coast Communist newspaper. [ ] advised that sometime prior to January 13, 1954, subject received a telephone call in regard to another complaint about racial discrimination at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, but that subject had not done anything about this matter as yet. b2 b7D [ ] advised that subject has been endeavoring to secure an anti-discrimination clause in the franchise of the new bus company which is to take over the traction system in Des Moines. He advised subject had been unsuccessful in getting this clause inserted into the franchise. [ ] stated that on January 26, 1954, subject [ ] and [ ] discussed the developments in Korea and seemed much amused over the fact that the United States was going to prosecute corporal ED DICKENSON, a Korean Prisoner of War, for being friendly to Communists. They stated that this was exactly what BURCHETT and [ ] of the Communist Press in Korea had ttold would happen to any of these POW's that returned to the United States. b2 b7C b7D [ ] stated that subject has not been too active of late and that she does not seem to be able to put together any kind an organization in Des Moines. [ ] advised that [ ] attended the Congress For The Peoples For Peace held in Vienna, Austria in December, 1952. -3-
