OM 100-4095 [ ] went to Chicago, Illinois, and attended the National Convention of the Progressive Party held in that city. b2 b7C b7D [ ] characterized the subject as an " intense Communist Party member." [ ] advised that subject receives and reads the " Daily Worker" and has a Marxist library in her own home. The " Daily Worker" is an East Coast Communist newspaper. [ ] advised that subject is Chairman of the Iowa State Progressive Party, and that she has numerous contacts with that organization. He advised that she is active in church and community affairs where she utilizes every opportunity to spread Communist Party propaganda. [ ] advised that he has heard subject talk before a church group, the name of which he could not recall, and she said " The ROSENBERG case is a manifestation of the growing American anti-Semitic campaign." The ROSENBERG case refers to JULIUS and ETHEL ROSENBERG, who were tried and convicted in the United States District Court in the Southern District of New York for furnishing atomic information to Russia and for which offense they were subsequently executed in Sing Sing Prison. [ ] stated that subject solicited memberships in the Communist Party during the summer of 1953, but was not successful. b2 b7D The Communist Party, USA, has been cited by the Attorney General of the United States as coming within the purview of Executive Order 10450. Confidential Informant [ ] of known reliability, advised subject remarked on April 7, 1954, that Cardinal MINDZENTY had been found conclusively guilty of collaborating with HITLER and giving aid and comfort to the enemies of Hungary. b2 b7D [ ] advised that subject has been very quiet of late and very inactive in regard to Communist Party activities. He stated subject seems to have " gotten religion" and spends a great deal of her time doing church work. He advised that he has not heard of her attempts to carry on any Communist propaganda through her church. -P*- -2-
