David Tra His master came over and said Ruffus you are free you dont have to work for me any more. He did not give us any money or advice just turned you loose like a horse on paster(pasture). He made his way to the City went down to the way were(where) the Missippii(Mississippi) River boat were running in those days most all freight was carried by them He could not write or read but he said He often heard the slave master say that the river ran North and South and He Had heard if you got up North you would be freed so He did not want to go South so He got a boat goeing(going) up the river did not no where He was goeing(going)
