PAGE 21. Buxton I will place her bed room next to ours and that will help to some extent If my mother thought I was going to be contaminated she was just as wrong as she could be because I had already been contaminated; but I have often heard that "Every Old Crow Thinks its Babe is as White as Snow". I had already decided that I was not going to give them any trouble and if it did occur it would have to come from another source. We all went through the Winter and up to the beginning of Summer and everything seem to be perfect but in June of 1911 my Mother passed away in DesMoines Hospital. My father was gone most of the day but now without Mother everything seem so desolate and quiet. Halley moved her bed room up stairs; south of Mr. Walkers room at the top of the stairs and if she wanted to go into any other room she would have to pass through Mr. Walkers room. She could have opened her door and peeped through to find out if he were asleep or awake but she cared less whether he was awake or otherwise for she passed through his room and another room; then into my room. She came in the first night and then the second night and there was no participation or attempt of any kind but on the third night I had lost all of my resistance and for nearly two years this was regular routine. We had parties often on week ends and this Saturday night was no exception with 25 or 30 guest. Halley talked marriage quite often but I discouraged her by explaining that no matter how distant the Relationship was; if there be children they might be born with one leg or no arms and perhaps deaf and blind or complete idiots; and even farmers do not have much success at inbreeding. If you are not too choosey there is a dozen young men around here that will be glad to exchange marital Vows with you. On this Saturday night we had planned a party with music; dancing with card playing with a prize being contributed to the best Bridge Playing couple. A young man by the name of London was a member of the party that night. He had been a school mate of mine and his mother had been our teacher over a period of two years. His mother and father were educated people and they were sending their son to colledge and I must admit that he was one hansom collegiate student; as a matter of fact Halley had eyes for nobody but him. he was spending his summer vacation in Buxton with his parents. His uncle had a grocery store two blocks from our home and he was there ooccassionaly and Hallie always needed some grocerious of something during his visit there. I watched this romance at the party and I could see that they had something going. After the party I related to her from what I have seen is going to have some relation and bearing in what I found out in History a long, long time ago. It begins like this: Pontha De Leon tried to discover the Fountain of Youth in Florida; Balboa discovered the Pacifica Ocean and Desota marched through Georgia; Alabama and Mississipi and he tried to get the Indians to act at Porters and carry his supplies and when they refused he chopped off their hands above the wrist which was cruel and
