out of bed while it was just getting light and ran into the other rooms to say "Merry Christmas." Then we snuggled down in bed again to get warm while Fred went down and fought seven rounds with the furnace. The dirty pup came into my room with snow, saying there was no rice handy, and soaked me with snow and old shoes. Then he tore down to the kitchen and proceeded to hunt up some tin pans which he pounded and beat outside my door. He is certainly a sublime idiot, if ever I knew one. We all had a grandiferous breakfast and then tied up packages and made candy until time to go to Martha's. We were to have the tree and dinner there, and it was pecks of fun. Mother and I decided we'd sneak off from the crowd and write to you, but it was out of the question. Everyone cut loose and helped
