MY JOY Of all the joys that life can bring There's one I'd choose--if choose I could-- And count it best of all the rest, The simple joy of doing good. To lift the burden from the weak, To smooth the path for weary feet, To cheer the sad and make earth glad-- Oh that to me is joy complete! There's joy in wealth and power and fame When these are rightly understood-- For each to me would only be The means of doing greater good. AUGUST She comes! The radiant summer queen! A sheaf is in her hand, She bids the reapers gather in The harvest of the land, About her feet the goldenrod And purple astara twine, The melons ripen in the patch, The grapes upon the vine. Above her hands the silver moon-- The year has reached its golden noon!
