On Dec 9, 1805 John Adair presented his credentials to the Senate, having been appointed by the legislature of the state of Kentucky in place of John Breckenridge, resigned. The bill against British aggressions was before the senate. It came out in a form which restricted the presidents actions and circumscribed his power. Adair spoke against the bill with force and clearness. 1 but it did not come up for final passage during his brief term of service. He resigned in 1806 to return to military life and the vacancy caused by is resignation was filled by the appointment of Henry Clay. Mr. Adair became implicated in Burr's conspiracy but he was 1.
