Late in February 1832 Mr. Branch asked that the secretary of the navy be instructed to give all available information concerning the navy timber. During his term of service as secretary he had appointed agents to investigate the live oak region around Pensacola and on the gulf coast. A full report had not been sent to congress and Mr. Branch desired that some action might be taken in the matter. This opened the way for Mr. White of Florida to attack the work of 1.
