Mr. Poland served as chairman of the committee which was appointed to investigate the charges brought against certain representatives in connection with the "Credit-Mobilier." The other members were Nathaniel P. Banks of Massachusetts, Wm. E. Neblack of Indiana, Wm. N. Merrrick of Maryland and George W. McCreary of Iowa.
