It is not very pleasant to be in a minority of one or two in your own party in a body like this but I have learned to stand alone on my convictions." 1 He took an active part in the debates on the disputed electoral returns especially in those from Oregon, where though the republican elector had received the most votes, the democratic elector had returned because the former was ineligible having been post master at the time of his election. Mr. Eaton naturally favored the right of the democratic elector. Mr. Eaton served on the committee on foreign relations, and as a member of that committee showed 1 Congressional Record Vol 5 p 900.
