ian limestone forms. The magnesian stone is massive and heavily bedded but does not resist the weather well enough to be a good building stone. Some of it is stained with bands of iron oxide. This, when polished, produces a very pleasing effect, and has been used for interior decorations in place of marble. The phase of the Kinderhook found in Humboldt County is an oolite, made up of rather large ooliths. This is the best building stone of this formation in Iowa. Although the Kinderhook of Pama and Marshall Counties is magnesian, it is not a dolomite since the percent of magnesium carbonate contained is too small.
