18. Perhaps the same as Z. spinulosa Edwards and Haime, 1851. Monog. d. Polyp. Foss. d. Ter. Pal., p. 334. And Zaphrentis spinulifera Hall, 1858: Geol. of Iowa, Vol. I p. 630. Coral turbinate, somewhat curved, usually distorted by a few annular ridges; epitheca thin with the portion toward the lower end ornamented by a few short spines; calyx circular, moderately deep; fossette distinct, near the wall of the calyx but in a variable position as regards the curvature of the fossil, septa thirty to thirty-six in number, rudimentary septa between primary septa. Average specimen and one and one half inches in length, and calyx three fourths to seven eights inch in diameter.
