Again these two formations differ in regard to the coal [filauts?] With but few exceptions no coal flaute] are found in the Missouri stage while the Des Moines stage abounds with them. There are however a few fossils which are found in both stages; a large enough number in fact to show that the Des moines stage at one place was laid down [coutepers?] [aneously?] with the Missouri at another place. Perhaps when the true coal measuerer of Pok County were forming Montgomery county was building p of the charachteristic limstones of the Missouri stage. So it is the difference between these two foundations is lateral rather than vertical. There is, however, one more point
