The nervous centers consist of an oesophageal ring and ganglia. Sexes separate. The Brachiopoda all live in salt water.

     This sub-class includes those which do not have the valves hinged, but which have then held together by muscles only.

     Inarticulate Brachiopods without a true pedicle opening, having the organ of attachment passing between the two valves.
