[page]119.[/page] slopes rather gibbous; beaks not very prominent, oblique, compressed, nearly as far forward as most anterior part of shell; umbos extending from beaks obliquely downward and backward. Hinge line nearly one half as long as shell, straight, but joining the curve of the posterior margin without a perceptible angle, posterior portion of shell wedge shaped, curved in the form of an arc of an ellipse from hinge line to posterior basal extremity. Cardinal area narrow with but two or three cartilage furrows. Surface marked by fine concentric striae and by larger irregular lines of growth. Geol. Pos.-- Coal Measures of Western States.
