[page]165.[/page] [underlined][underlined][underlined][underlined][underlined]ARTHROPODA.[/underlined][/underlined][/underlined][/underlined][/underlined] This subkingdom includes the four classes of "articulate animals" viz. the crustacea, (Lobsters, Crabs, Trilobites, etc.); the Arachnida, (Spiders and Scorpions); the Myropoda, (Centipedes and Millipedes); and the Insecta, (true insects). In this subkingdom the body is composed of a series of segments which, usually, are definite in number and which are arranged symmetrically in regard to a longitudinal midline. For each segment there may be a pair of articulated appendages. In general both the body and the appendages are provided with a chitinous, usually somewhat calcified exoskeleton.
