DMR 5/21/71 Act on Cases In Disorders At Iowa City By a Staff Writer IOWA CITY, IA. - Police Court records here show that charges filed against 28 persons arrested during disorders in the downtown area and on the University of Iowa campus earlier this month have been dismissed. Police court records indicate 15 persons have been found guilty of charges filed against them during the four nights of violence. Also, seven persons have been found innocent by Police Judge Joseph Thornton during trials which occurred during the last two weeks. More than 80 persons were arrested, most on charges of disorderly conduct. The arrests followed rock throwing and window breaking in the downtown area and on the campus the nights of May 5, 6, 10 and 11. Cases against 16 persons are still pending in connection with the disturbances. two cases have been transferred to Johnson County District Court, court records show. Dismiss Charges Charges of disorderly conduct have been dismissed against the following persons: Steven Burkett, 18, Iowa City; Edwin A. Burnett, jr., Davenport; Michael Collins, 26, Iowa City; John R. Cord, 24, Iowa City; James Dutkiewicz, 22, U of I senior, Peru, Ill; Kenneth Dykema, 19, freshman, Elma; Colin Franklin, jr., freshman, Clinton. Also, Jim Gilford, 19 , freshman, Winnetka, Ill.; Anne Harover, 18, freshman, Mount Ayr; Jeffrey C. Horn, freshman, State Center; Max Jones. 23. Iowa City; Marty Jorgensen, 18, freshman, Clinton. Fred Karnes, 24, Iowa City; Press-Citizen reporter; Alfred Kimble, 20, Iowa City; Gerald Lehman, Iowa City; Gary Dean Martin, 18, Iowa City; Stanley J. Mortenson, 22, Iowa City; David G. Omara, 21, Iowa City; Rojene Omara, 20, Iowa City. Other Dismissals And, Wesley B. Rasan, Clarinda; Tom Rudd, 21, Iowa City; Steve Schmidhauser, 18 Iowa City; David Sherman, 19, sophomore, Lindenwood Ill,; Billy Steig, 22, junior, Cherokee; David Stoner, 26, Iowa City; and James N. Wilson, sophomore, Boone. A charge of unlawful assembly was dismissed against William F. Cox, 18 of Iowa City. Found innocent of disorderly conduct charges are: Marlene McAllister, 23, Coralville; Barbara Miller, 20, Iowa City; Mark Nudelman, Iowa City; Charles E. Oliver, junior, Turin; and Thomas L. Heid, rural Iowa City. Roger Bishop of Mitchelville was found innocent of disobeying a police officer and David L. Kurt. 34, a U of I graduate student from Iowa City was found innocent of unlawful assembly. Conduct Charge Court records shoe that five persons originally charged with disorderly conduct had that charge dismissed and have been found guilty of disobeying a police officer and each fined $105. They are: Anthony Borg, 24, Iowa City; Tom Christiansen, 22, Coralville; Carl Couch, 45, U of I assistant professor of sociology; Stanley Gassman, 22, senior Holy Cross; and Thomas C. Walsh, Iowa City Press-Citizen reporter. Those found guilty of disorderly conduct include Harold Erickson of Iowa City; Jerry F. Full, freshman, Iowa City; Richard M. Hinds, 21, junior, Davenport; Steven C. Homma, freshman, Highland Park, Ill,; Stephen Reynolds, 21, Iowa City; Patrick E. Russell, Riverwoods, Ill,; Beauford E. Salsbury, freshman, Iowa City; and Robert L. Ziegler, sophomore, Iowa City, Full has appealed the decision to district court. Appeals Conviction Dan G. Kalopek, a U of I sophomore from Elberon, has been found guilty of unlawful assembly and fined $105. Dennis R. Liming, 20, of Ames, was found guilty of resisting the execution of process, and fined $105. Liming had appealed the conviction. Three persons forfeited bonds posted after their arrests during the disorders. They are: Donald C. Lee, 28, Iowa City, charged with reckless driving; Michael Maxwell, 20, Dubuque, unlawful assembly; and Charles Megith, 28. Iowa City, disorderly conduct. Two cases have been transferred to district court: John Pinney, 24, Iowa City, charged with leaving the scene of an accident; and John K. Rucker, 20, U of I sophomore from Des Moines, assault with intent to commit great bodily injury. The police court clerk's office also reported that a charge of assisting escape from a police officer listed against David West, a U of I freshman from Sidney, has not yet been filed although his name appeared on police dockets May 6.
