Saving...
-2- Support the local branch in their effort to raise funds to carry our their work, as well as going over the top in their freedom fund quota, by attending the Valentine dance which is being held this Friday, February 14, 1964....at the Sepia Room, from 8:30 PM to 12:30 AM. The music will be furnished by Johnny Phillips and the Houserockers of Quincy, Illinois. No minors will be allowed to attend. There is still a SELECTIVE BUYING CAMPAIGN in effect! The following places are on our list...; Woolworths Allens, Inc. The Palms Rashid Rexall Drugs Fuller Brush Co. The Pennsylvania State Conference of Branches of the NAACP has served notice on the Hershey Candy Company of Hershey, Pa., that direct action will be taken if they continue to refuse to hire qualified Negroes. We will follow the direction of the negotiations and report them. According to our information, the Jantzen Company has still not hired Negroes in the Seneca, South Carolina area, except for janitorial duties, even when they are qualified. The local library has many good books on their shelves which are very informative, about the Negro, past and present. Even those of us who area aware of existing conditions and the history of the life of the Negro in America, by virtue of the fact that we are Negroes, can learn much, by reading them. This Sunday is Brotherhood Sunday,...and all who possibly can, should make plans to attend the program which is sponsored by the local Council of Churches. The program will be held at 8PM on Sunday, February 16, at the Public High School. A farewell program for Father Martin, will be held in Sacred Heart Hall, on this Sunday, February 16th at 6:45. Members of the local branch can and should attend, if it is at all possible. Members of the youth council spent an enjoyable evening attending the Homecoming Dance at St. Mary's High School in West Point, Iowa. They were invited to do so, after a few students from each group had met one another and participated in a 'Home Visit'. Plans are now being made for another such meeting, only the next one will take place in West Point...with the possibility that more students and adults may be able to take part in the exchange of ideas and attitudes. ATTENTION! FORT MADISON, BRANCH MEETING THURSDAY NIGH, FEBRUARY 20, 1964 St. Luke's Parish Hall 605 Avenue E 8:00 PM Please be Prompt!
