Fort Madison, Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 October 24, 1967 Dear Friend: Once again, our branch is presenting a dynamic and interesting public personality, in the interest of improving inter-group relations, in this community. Today, more than ever before, communication barriers which were erected hundreds of years ago, must be broken. As Roy Wilkins, Executive Director of the NAACP, stated in his address to the delegates of our 1967 National Convention, in Boston ... "The white community, as it was, in the beginning of the NAACP, 58 years ago, is invited freely to bring its talents to the age-old striving of man - not black or white man -, but man - for freedom. For the evils which we combat are not 1967 evils, but old ones, here before the Pharohs. The sorrows and inequalities and cruelties have no racial label: for whom was the Magna Carta? These hurts are of the heart and all hearts speak one language. In our common assault on these old enemies from this organized bastion located as far toward freedom as man has ever passed, let us use every tool available, let us fashion needed new tools, let us expand man's horizons of the body and mind and the heart. Let is be free." We extend our hand, and invite you to join us in a dinner of friendship as we listen to a speaker who has a message for all men, regardless their race, color or creed. Donatino to the dinner tickets is $5.00 Reservations may be made by contacting: Mrs. Marjorie Lewis 314 Avenue D Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 372 -1840 or 372 - 3542 reservations should be in by November 1, 1967 Please let us hear from you.
