The following answer was provided by the College of Education: Q: It is understood that student teachers in the College of Education have been told that withdrawal from student teaching at this time could occur only with a grade of incomplete. Is this correct? A: This ruling was made because of teacher certification requirements. The Iowa State Department of Public Instruction has agreed to permit the modification of the certification plan of The University of Iowa to provide for certification [[underlined]] in Iowa [[/underlined]] with the amount of student teaching completed to date. The three options specified by the Registrar's Office are therefore open to students registered in student teaching who feel compelled to leave the campus early. Grades will be issued on the basis or work done to date. Students who wish to profit from the experiences provided in the full student-teaching period ending May 26 will wish to continue with student teaching. Present bus routes will continue to operate. There are some state in which certification requirements specify a minimum numbers of weeks of student teaching or a minimum number of clock hours. Students should ascertain the minimum requirements of the state in which they intend to teach.
