12/2/70 P-C Council To Ask Court To Dissolve Protest Injunction By FRED E. KARNES of the Press-Citizen The City Council has unanimously approved the recommendation of City Atty. Jay Honohan to ask the Johnson County District Court to dissolve an injunction aimed at student protesters. Honohan's recommendation and the Council's subsequent approval came Tuesday night at the end of the Council's formal meeting. A hearing is set or next Wednesday in District Court to decide whether the decree should be extended. The Council also approved Honohan's recommendation that the court retain jurisdiction in the case until the end of the current school term. The city attorney told the Council that there is "no reason at this time we continue this injunction. At this time the injunction is not necessary." Honohan said the consensus of University of Iowa officials and local law enforcement personnel is that no trouble will erupt on campus. " I am authorized to say that the administration of this university concurs with this recommendation," Honohan added. No discussion attended the Council's approval of the proposal. It thus appears likely that the decree will be dropped since Honohan - representing the city last May - was the central impetus in favor of the injunction The court order was first issued May 6 at the height of student protest over the invasion of Cambodia and the killing of four Kent State students by National Guardsmen. It was made temporary in a slightly altered form Sept. 9.
