Thunderous cheers greeted the teams as they went thru curtailed batting and fielding warm ups; and then the All-Stars took the field. Sykora, wild at the start, walked Madle on four pitched balls. "Get yur ball bearings,Syk!" yelled 4e as the All-Star infield hepped it up. Knight however, after working his count to two and two, bounced a hot one off Lowndes' shin and all hands were safe. This unnerved Sykora who promptly hit Swisher with a pitched ball, filling the bases amid the delirious yells of the Star-Treader supporters. (( Snap it up!, yelled 4e )) Daugherty swung viciously at the first ball pitched, lining into Sykora's mitt, and Swisher was doubled off first. Perdue now lifted an easy fly to Wollheim (( Swat it!, yelled 4e )) WHO promptly lost it in the sun, found it too late, and fumbled it ingloriously, as Madle and Knight scored. Perdue was then cut down trying to steal second, by Warner, who made a fast stop of Wollheim's off-line throw, and executed a lovely swan dive onto the furiously sliding Perdue. Two runs. First up for the All- Stars, Moskowitz fanned on four pitched balls, as Knight's famed snide ball had him baffled. Sykora however, beat out a bunt when Madle's throw pulled Swisher off the bag. Ackerman, after fouling several pitches (( Oh feathers!, cursed 4e )), hit a hot handle Texas League between Perdue and Widner, who rushed headlong into each other. Widner got up just in time to hold Sykora at third, Ackie making second easy. Perdue was then revived and the game proceeded. Warner bounced to Rothman, who tagged Ackie neatly, and then wildly snapped the ball high over Swisher's head, letting Syk score and putting Warner on second. This brought Lowndes to bat, who smote the snide ball for a lusty double to center field, which Tucker fumbled long enough to let Lowndes reach third. But then the demon Knight made Wollheim pop to Daughtery for the third out. Two runs. Score tied. SECOND INNING: Widner, with the count one and one, hit a 430-foot homer into the left field stands, Taurasi flied to Speer; Miske dropped Tucker's easy hoist, Tucker reaching second on the error. Rothman was thrown out by Reinsberg from deep short, partly because Rothman fell flat on his face after hitting the ball. (( what a dusty kisser!, yelled 4e )). Madle again worked Syk for a pass; Knight doubled down the right field foul line, Tucker scoring, but a great throw --Miske to Moskie , cut down Madle at the plate. The decision was close and Koenig was stormed by angry Star-Treaders, but stood his ground. Two runs. (n-p)
