Page 12 S.F. Collector Incidentally, those [[?]] which are not rotten are hack[[?]] the nth degree. [[?]] take my word for it; look at the stories and try to find when the situations in [[?]] first employed. Next to MSS in degree of worthlessness should come THE [[?]] WONDER STORIES. This publication, with its childish departments, even CARTOONS , is juvenile to the utmost. In this case the editor and the publishe_s are both to blame, but here again the publishers come in [[?]] the largest part of it. The [[underline]]editor[[end underline]][ is at fault for his policy of gigging up old authors who once wrote a half way decent story, and then assuring [[?]] that any contribution will be all but assured for publication. The [[underline]]publishers[[end underline]] are at fault for encouraging him; for handing us the cheapest and most juvenile fantastic fiction -- usually only wetern[?] or detective with an interplanetary setting; for the childlike departments[?] they clutter the magazine with; for shortening the only worthwhile departments[?] and for [[?]] only ninety pages of fiction, such as it is, for a nickel more than ordinary pulps of the same number of pages. This magazine shows us a [[?]], even hypocrisy, is the repeated [[?]] for support so that "science fiction may forge on to even 'higher' heights" -- [[underline]]but at least it's clean[[end underline]]! The disconcerting thing about its fiction is that it demonstrates to us that the authors write only as well as is necessary in order to sell their stories. Which once again reflects on the editors and publishers. The third magazine of the bad three, is the new AMAZING STORIES. The fiction of this re-born (I should say it has been murdered)
