THE COMET PAGE 4 [[underline]]THE NUCLEUS[[end underline]] --- [[underline]]THE EDITOR'S PAGE[[end underline]] First of all I want to tank all of thoses who so kindly returned the questionaires I sent out. They are: Forrest J Ackerman, Harry Varner, Jr., Russ [?]odgkins, Joe Fortier, Mel Schmidt, Julius Unger, Damon Knight, Bob Tucker, Jim Tillman, Jim Avery, Morojo, and John Reitrof. Some more are going out this issue to those who are new subscribers and those who didn't return the first ones. You have probably already noticed the back cover, well, let that be a warning to any hectographers, don't try to make a solid purple[?] sk[?]. But the original is pretty good and the one that rates the features in this issue closest to average will get it. (If they want it.) Special thanks must go to Forrest J Ackerman, who gave $5.00 for a life subscription and contributed a fine article. Thanks again, 4e[?]. Also of special help were Jim Avery and Bob Tucker. Starting next issue THE COMET will be a quarterly publication. This will give more time to make a better issue, and time to prepare [[underline]]DAWN[[end underline]], annual companion to THE COMET. You are invited to contribute long articles and stories to DAWN. It and the next issue of THE COMET will be mimeod[?]. How do you like the cover? Should it be full page (as it is) or margined off; illustrating a story or just a drawing? The contents page is changed too. What type do you like best? It seems the last issue there was quite a divergence of opinion. Only one article escaped a brickbat, that was Ackerman's "collectors ' item". Altho it wasn't rated exceptionally high, none disliked it. Hardly anybody sent any ratings in, most all just gave their opinion. Ratings Please! Heres the way they came out, though. A tie for first place between 1. VOYAGE VIA VERISIMILITUDE 2. WHAT MADE THEM 'GOOD'? by Reitrof and Warner respectively. Second was 4J[?] Ackerman's COMET & SEE ME SOMETIME! And third was Tillman's FAVORITE AUTHORS - A LITTLE RATING. Best like features-- hectoed drawings and Contents page. Mos t disliked-- Poetry and Stix. How does that stack up with yours? For next issue there will be an interpertationof Through The Looking Glass by Jim Tillman, another article by Avery, more fiction, and a regular column by Fortier, etc. BUT I STILL NEED MORE MATERIAL! I went to a lot of expense this time for the photos, but if there is enough demand I'll have another next issue. In the feature story, NECESSITATED RETURN there is quite a puzzel, it has a hidden meaning that takes a little thought to figure out. So read it and see if you can figure it out. Also there is one article without the author's name. to the one that guesses it will go a free copy of DAWN when it comes out. and DAWN will be 25[[cent symbol]]. Well, that's all this time, be seeing you next issue, with a mimeo! Advertising rates: 75[[cent symbol]] for an artistic add page or 60[[cent symbol]] straight typing. 40[[cent symbol[[ a half page, and two-bits for a quarter page. 10[[cent symbol]] for small ads.
