which is surely to become one of the most sought after rarities within a few brief months. Some Chinese Ghosts, by Lafcadio Hearn. 53 pages, title page and chapter decorations by Roy Hunt. Limited edition of 1,000 copies. 2.00 New Collector's Group, 4482 Quitman St., Denver 12, Colorado. In the preface to the original edition of this rare volume of ghost stories, Hearn wrote, "...yet the humblest traveler who follows wonderingly after them into the vast and mysterious pleasure-grounds of Chinese fancy may surely be permitted to cull a few of the marvelous flowers there growing, -- a self-luminous Lwa-Wang, a black lily, a phosphoric rose of two, -- as souvenirs of his glorious voyage." The same is true today when one re-reads this exquisite set of six ghostly fables by one of the greatest Orientalists the world has ever known. The gossamer fabrics which clothe these six stories are unexcelled for sheer beauty and depth, in the realm of the curious and supernatural. "The Story of Ming-y" and "The Story of the Great Bell" are magic and their subtle power has inspired such great fantasy writers as Owen, Merritt, Blackwood and Machen, with their deep witcheries and romantic mystery. While the reader of Thelma's Tidy Terror Tales or Gruesome Stories, and all those who like other BEM's and the usual pulp fiction formula will not like these masterpieces, true collectors and fantasy lovers are urged to add this long out of print rarity to their most valuable self. Incidently, the papers and type used in this book are welcome improvements over this company's previous two volumes, and the Oriental line drawings by Roy Hunt make this a genuine collector's item. 28
