Dirty old kepner GEORGE EBEY ~ The Mecca of all science fiction addicts—Shangri- La---is deftly criticized, plus __________________ Claude Degler runs the Cosmic Circle or something, but that's beside the point He also carries copies of Fan Slants around with him. Fan Slants is a Los Angeles fanzine. Don't take my word for it, though. My copy didn't have any contents page, so I'm just guessing. Anyway, there was an article in Fan Slants by Yerke publicizing Bronson and another by Bronson publicizing Yerke, so it's practically a dead certainty that Fan Slants was brought to light in Los Angeles. You know - Los Angeles. The hot-bed of fandom. One bed with too many occupants. A lot of fans are heading for Los Angeles as I write. A lot are heading away from there, too. You are probably getting the idea by now that I am going to devote that article to slamming LA and its fan-occupants. Wrong! I intend to slam some other items first. Fan Slants, for instance. Not the mag - spflrsk no. Just some of the material. FAN FOUT - "Fout" is a word invented by a tot in Minneapolis - subtitled, it stands for "Jike Blows His Top". I maneuvered my optics over this column for the better part of an hour and came to the conclusion that "Jike" should blow his top elsewhere. "Jike" is James L. Kepner, late of the GGFS and San Francisco. You know about San Francisco, but I'll bet a cooky you don't know about the GGFS. That's alright you're in good company. A lot of people were in the GGFS - Golden Gate Fantasy Society - for months at a time and still didn't understand what was going on. Never mind. Kepner, believe me, is a good Joe. Inoffensive - at least we thought he was, damn him. A snake in our bosoms. (Only Jimmy will appreciate that last.) He always kept quiet at the meetings - unless he exceeded his liquor limit, whereupon he would bawl dirty verses at the top of his lungs. He had powerful lungs. A nice unremarkable stfan. (next page)
