The Science-Fiction Spotlight by ROBERT A. MADLE ~ Agnew It will be the purpose of this column, primarily, to supply you with news concerning the professional magazines. Mark Reinsberg's "AMAZING News" has become a favorite with the huge majority of FD's readers, and many of you have suggested that someone cover the other professional magazines. I shall do my best but it must be realized that I am working under adverse circumstances due to the fact that I do not reside in New York City. Of course, I shall cover other science fictional activities in addition to informing you of the things to come in ASTOUNDING, MARVEL, THRILLING WONDER, and the others. From all indications, the tenth anniversary issue of THRILLING WONDER STORIES will contain one of the greatest assortments of stories in the history of science fiction. It will, of course, be dated June, 1939 -- just ten years after Hugo Gernsback brought out the first issue of SCIENCE WONDER STORIES. The feature novelettes will be; "The Ultimate Catalyst" by John Taine; "The Man Without A World" by John Coleman Burroughs and Halbert Burroughs; and "Robot Nemesis" by Edward Elmer Smith. The authors of "The Man Without A World" are the sons of the famous Edgar Rice Burroughs! This issue will inaugurate something distinctly original in science fiction magazines. It is indeed a pleasure for me to state that "Dawn of Flame," which was the Weinbaum Memorial Volume feature story, will be published -- [[underline]]in bsupplement form[[end underline]]! This story is one of the famous trilogy; the others being "The Black Flame," which appeared in the first STARTLING STORIES, and "The New Adam," which is the property of the Ziff-Davis Publishing Company. After the publication of "The New Adam" there will be no more Weinbaum stories. Jack Williamson will be represented in this issue with a short story, "Passage to Saturn". David H. Keller, who has been sadly neglected of late, will appear with "No More Friction," and there will be two more short stories, "The Stolen Centuries" by Otis Adelbert Kline and "Moon of Intoxication," which is the work of Eando Binder. Photographs and biographies of all of THRILLING WONDER'S regular contributors, authors and artists, will appear. The following paragraph from the editor of UNKNOWN, John W. Campbell, Jr., clears up the mystery of why UNKNOWN hit the newsstands in Philadelphia almost three weeks before it was scheduled to appear. "Philadelphia was the first city in the world to get UNKNOWN. The magazines are printed and bound and wrapped in large lots, individual quantities. The company wanted to get this first number out as soon as possible, of course, and the first shipment assembled was of the proper number to supply the stands of a city the size of Philly---wherefore Philly got 'em. Chicago was next, then New York, then general shipments
