7. Holocaust [stars] Adman eagerly loaded it upon a hand truck and carted it up to his own laboratory, fastened it permanently, and with great impatience prepared for the trial. The power line was plugged in, controls inspected and adjusted, and finally the power switch thrown. Nothing visible happened but the flopping over of two needles. Adman looked at them, and stood with his mouth open, stunned at the amount of power the thing was drawing. Visible effects were not obvious for many minutes, when gradually a strand refraction phenomenon started building up in the center of the top cell. Nothing was there, but light passing through it was bent Adman made a brief mental calculation of the energy his machine had drawn so far, and suddenly opened the switch. The disturbance within the coil remained. Adman thoughtfully walked over to his desk and signaled the number of his laboratory director on the visiphone. Almost immediately the man's face flashed on and made greeting. "If you are not busy now, Dr.,"Adam spoke, "I would like to see you right away. I have something interesting to show you." "Something concerning your experiment on magnetism?" "Indirectly," Adam replied with a little twisted side. "You might call it a by product. "I'll be up in ten minutes, then." "Good, I shall be expecting you." Adam walked over to his machine, and
