9. Holocaust [stars] what would happen at the spot of high intensity. I won't have a material lens now, but a lens of gravity. What will happen at the point of focus when the field becomes intensive enough to bend the cosmic rays to that point? That is why I have the second coil there." "Oh... I suppose you are thinking of the Menlo-Wall computations..... That material energy will be released by the action of the short waves upon matter. And the second coils?" "A concave lens, to disperse the rays converged by the first, and prevent them from coming to a focus anywhere except between the two coils." "Wonderful.. Wonderful. But the power eats it up!" "Yes. I would appreciate a special line sent up here so I could draw a hundred kilowatts comfortably. It will all come back." "I will do that right away." The director hurried over to the visiphone, and signaled. Power flowed through the wires into the inexhaustable maw of machine. The disturbance within the coil became more acute, until it was difficult to see through it. Finally blackness lay as an opaque wall within the circle. Adam closely examined many meters, and turned dials to follow their readings. Suddenly an intense glare grew between the coils, and [simultanously?] Adman threw a tumbler switch. The glare dimmed, grew agin, and finally steadied, while the readings of the two large meters climbed to fabulous figures.
