25. Return to the Future ************************************************************ "Well, say, now! . .Listen: I don't understand this at all! What did all thse women have to do with the affair?" "They were raised solely that I, eventually, the Apex of the Human Race, would be achieved," answered the girl, pushing back her hair; and she added: "For the time was drawing near." "Drawing near for what?" demanded Myron. "For your arrival." "For my arrival!. . . . What have I to do with you, your mother's mother, your grandmother and so on?" The girl blushed. But she answered valiantly: "Because the ancient records foretold that a savior of the human race would make his appearance in the middle of the year$ 3570, who would, by a seeming coincidence, meet the very last human being . . . a girl, named Alora; and so be essential in restoring the world to its former glory, as it was before the beginning of the Age of Futility." "And your name is?" "Alora," answered the young woman as she gazed downward. "And this is the year of---" "3570." * * * *
