"Not incredible, but a destiny fulfilled," Alora explained. "My mother and I were the last of the race to survive. Together we struggled to exist in a world of death and desolation. It was a terrible task to accomplish.. . . for father was killed by a fall when I was but a baby. . . and Mother labored against the elements alone. With# her rested the full responsibility of rearing the sole hope of civilization during the final score of years before your arrival. For she knew I was the Ultimate Apex of Mankind's Pyramid. The offspring from which I come were, so to speak, the necessary units upon which the pyramid was founded, that eventually this pyramid reach a figurative point in time that would coincide with your flight through infinity. "I was taught many things in connection with the past and my Purpose. A strict record of the years has always been kept and of all the details of our predestined meeting at this time and place. Since Mother died, I have roamed far and wide and learned many things about the world of the past in which you lived." "In what way?" asked Myron. "In every way. You had everything at your command. The merest touch of a button gave access to your every wish. You travelled, communicated, controlled vast energies. . . slept, ate, lived . . . by the tips of your fingers. Why?" "Because our forefathers were seeking the pinnacle of achievement . . . Utopia.
