57. The Curse Of Immortality *********************************************************** Immortal, the thin black vial he carried reflecting the sinister dull lights of the auditorium. Unexpectedly the Immortal dropped to his knees. His hands raised in an expression of mercy, once he whimpered as the thought of the treasure he was about to lose crossed his mind. Suddenly his mind seemed to snap. Tearing at his hair, he arose. "Mercy, mercy," he implored madly, "I don't want to die! Let me live!" Disgustedly old Geral Curry ceased his advance. With an expression of extreme repulsion he flung the black vial against the hard metal seats where it splintered into a thousand fragments. Once more he glanced at the quivering heap that had sunk to the floor again. Ironically a number of famous lines flitted across his mind. Tired though of living, I long to return, With all my cursed gift One thing they'll not know, Though it a secret which All men shall learn When through the dark portals of death They shall go.
