It seems that every s-f fan can draw...... or so he thinks. Some are good, some fair, and some are lousy. Jack Baltadonis will be mentioned first. He's good...... sometimes. Most of his fan magazine work is well done --- He's fine for machinery, not to mention weird space ships. Lots of snap to his action pictures..... He should, however, leave out his glophfy figure work------ Once in a while, he draws a meaningless jumble. Maybe it's because he lives over a bar? (Dockweiler please note)........ James Rogers of Oklahoma is reputed to be an excellent "artiste," but the only thing we saw done by him was punk.... Milt Rothman has done some good stuff, but there's nothing original in his style, or distinctive..... The hentracks that Dan Burford makes somehow are effective. If he'd produce one in a while maybe some of the fans might be able to judge........ Dak Kyle would like to be another Alex Raymond. Hunh, who wouldn't? The only "Flash Gordon" technique that he ever used to good effect was his first E.E.F. adventure. His old I.O. Hall of Fame portraits were swell, but most of his illustrations stunk......... Jim Taurasi is another artist that can't draw. As an editor he's fine, but his drawings...... Ugh! He's a mechanical draftsman, and his boss says he'll be a big success some day... Maybe he'd better develope a machinery style; he might make a hit........... Morris Dollens is the tops! The best amateur artist, outside of Clay Ferguson, Jr....... original and zippy, that's Morris.
