10 Page SCIENTI-SNAPS DOOM MOON A story in which an explanation is advanced for the cause of the great Arizona Crater by WALTER E. MARCONETTE Shadows like long purple fingers deepened in sunken ravines. Trees sighed and moaned in the rising wind. Shades of red, blue, and gold played across the distant mountains in kaleioscopic profusion. Swarms of birds. colorful bits of many hued feathers, sought the shelter of their nests as huge flying creatures took to the air. No birds, these latter, but monstrous winged reptiles. Silent, shadowy forms, the great hunting dinosaurs. fitted through the forest. The sun, a burning, golden disk, dropped from night behind the western hills. A solitary human figure, appearing somehow very forlorn and lonely in these wild surroundings, crouched near the bole of a huge, jungle tree fern. His terror widened eyes reviewed a horror filled landscape. Gan of the Dawn Men shivered in mortal fright as a huge screeching, hissing, rearing monster leaped upon the back of another beast, if possible, even more hideous than himself. Gan crept silently away as the forest shook and rocked to the roaring of the giant animals and the lashing of their ponderous tails. He like all his kind, feared the coming of darkness. His youthful, primitive world. beautiful yet savage, held far too many vicious meat saters, both men and beast. A faint gleam of light, all that meant home, safety, and comfort for him, made Gan's heart beat a trifle faster and lifted a tiny lump to his throat. As he hurried onward, two beautiful orbs filled the sky. Moons, yes, but to Gan's people they were gods. And even as they rose the
