FEDERAL-AID HIGHWAY PROGRAM

PERMISSIVE OCCUPANT RELOCATION

Part of the cost of construction of any federal-aid highway project may be for relocation of utility facilities, individuals, families, business concerns, and nonprofit organisations. If a state pays the entire cost of relocating a utility facility, the state will be reinbursed in the same proportion that federal funds are expended on the project.

The state will be required in all instances to assure that relocation advisory assistance will be given for the relocation of families.

If a state makes relocation payments in which federal funds will participate, these payments must not exceed $200 for an individual or family or $3,000 for a business concern or nonprofit organisation. In the case of a business concern or nonprofit organisation, the allowable expenses must not exceed the cot of moving more than 50 miles form the original location. Individuals and families may be paid fixed amounts, not exceeding $200, in lieu of their reasonable and necessary moving expenses.
