Saving...
situation, without actually doing anything constructive. To date, no real concern has been shown by the Iowa Highway Commission Officials or the City Fathers of Fort Madison, for the persons who will be displaced. In fact, officials have told me, that they were determined to get a Highway through the city of Fort Madison, from the Federal Government, and "someone" would have to get "hurt" in the name of progress. Since the only route for relocation of U.S. Highway 61, that is acceptable, to them, is the one, involving minority groups, I wish, at this time, to renew my charge of discrimination, against the Iowa Highway Commission. It is my contention that the public hearing is a farce, being used only to satisfy a request from the Federal Department of Transportation, that the situation be reviewed. The interests of all parties are not being given full consideration. Sincerely, (Miss) Virginia Harper Branch Administrative Secretary
