Mr. James I. Meyerson Page Two February 16, 1972 like to know the facts and examples regarding people being denied the privilege of living in other areas of Fort Madison because of their race and ancestry. Your position statement also states that "At this time, the only housing available in the City of Fort Madison is in the $25,000.00 bracket, a bracket which is far out of the reach of most of the homeowner in the corridor area." Inquiry was made of all realtors within Fort Madison and the housing available as of January 17, 1972, indicated that there were 63 out of a total of 83 houses available that were below the $24,000 price range. What is your $25,000 figure based on? We are sincerely interested in hearing your comments regarding these questions in order that we may thoroughly review this situation prior to the request of approval for a specific alternate. The transcript of the public hearing will be reviewed by the staff engineers and Commissioners prior to any decision regarding the proposed project. We will advise you of the Commission's action with respect to the proposed improvement of US 61 in the City of Fort Madison, Iowa, when such action is determined. Very truly yours, [[signature]]Robert L. Humphrey Robert L. Humphrey Planning & Programming Engineer DGW:nec
