NAACP -2- June 14, 1974 an explanation and clarification of the charge from the DOT. We request and expect one from the NAACP since your organization originated the claim. If you can document the charge, we invite you to do so. We take exception to other statements made in your complaints, but, as stated, see no point in debating them in this letter. The fact that we are not responding to them, herein, should in no way be interpreted as acquiescence. They are not in the best interests of our community and, in our opinion, are not even fair to the very minority groups you claim to be defending. our principal concern, at the moment, is clearing the air regarding local financial institutions which you have beclouded with unfounded and unjust claims. We ask that you do this promptly and in an appropriately satisfactory manner. Sincerely, A. Anthes Smith, President AAS: lc
