SPATIUM PRESIDENT'S MESAGE A MESSAGE FROM RONALD S. STONE PRESIDENT OF THE CENTRAL NEW YORK S-F SOCIETY Well, here it is again, Convention Time. This time it is the Cinvention. We are hoping to have this issue out soon enough so that I can bring some copies to the convention as our salute to fandom. I hope to see a lot of you people who have written us the nice latters bout our zine. Unfortunately, the C.N.Y.S.F.S. will not be very well represented at the Cinvention. There seems to be a story connect with the. Once there would have been three going by car. One owned a car, and we were going to pool our resources for the trip. However when we investigated the car, a 1934 coupe' we forulated doubts as to whether it could hope to get us to Cincinatti. Then Harold, one of the threesome, came to his financial senses, and backed out, relunctantly, deciding to forgo his first convention since the Philcon, for the sake of his schooling. I decided then to go by bus or train. The advice of friends who knew better was against the bus fro such a long trip. The train cost more, and I will have to skimp a few meals perhaps, but I want to get there in one piece. Lesse, about the C.N.Y.S.F.S., it seems to me that we got a couple of new member since the last issue. If you don't think we needed them, just take a look at the treasurer's report. No, on second thought, we will not show you the treasurer's report this issue; don't wish to shake your confidence in our sterling organiation. I shudder as I peep at it myself. But then, HSTruman (he's one of us Presidents, too) says, deficit spending is all in style today. Hey' Wot's with Super Science? Only two and a half months between "bimonthly" issues instead of the usual three in the field. Guess that this will be one of the last issues of "Spatium" you will see for a little while now, because Hal goes back to school Sept. 27--and----- Seems I been taking up too much valuable space with this stuff, so s'long 'till next issue. NOTHING We Cnysfers are almost convinced that some s-f enthusiast, if not in sooth a full fleged fan, or at least a s-f reader is in some position of importance in the new News Digest digest magazine QUICK (10c). Out of the first fifteen issues, there have been at least two, and maybe more comments of a favourable nature. One was in the way of a prediction that S-F movies would soon become legion due to the boom, and that movie story editors were being alerted to look for likely stories. (In my opinion they could do a lot worse (as far as fantasy goes) that Fritz Lieber's "Cunjure Wife", and it should be able to produce it with a minimum of trick fotography. I'd like to see the English produce "1984" and maybe "Final Blackout.") The other is in the latest issue and is under books, and notes the growing boom in sf and gives figures from aSF's poll of readers, to show the class audience that S-F has picked up. Remember when RAPalmer said that a new fandom had sprung up overnight out of Shaver, and all the old fans could do was to sit back and watch the fireworks. Ha Harold Cheney, Jr. PAGE -(5)-
