Newell and Townsend had raised the question of making vehicle such that it would use Aerobee launching tower. (at W.S.P.G., Holloman & Churchill.) Smith was somewhat reluctant to "go in for" a new tail fin design. Plan to make the tower of Bailey Bridge parts (army engineers) - build like Meccano set. Discussion ranged over I.G.Y. program and nearly all aspects of the work including U.S. trend to small rockets. Visited lab & showed them sample sets of apparatus, etc.
