Saving...
On 10 August 1956, Abigail, Cynthia, Margo, Sarah, Thomas and I set out for our long awaited vacation at our camp on Peconic Bay in Long Island. -- driving our new car with luggage on top (and inside) Went by way of Mt. Pleasant for lunch with Mother Van Allen and with George and family. Left Mt. Pleasant at 4 P.M. on the tenth, stayed at Motel near Hammond, Indiana on first night, at Youngstown, Ohio on second night and reached "Shinneconic" on evening of the 12th of August -- 1200 miles from Mt. Pleasant. Ohio and Pennsylvania and New Jersey turnpike make traveling east very easy now. Averaged 14.5 miles/gallon (regular gas).
