shortly before leaving Iowa City, I had suggested to Joseph Kasper the Ph.D. project of working out cosmic-ray geomagnetic theory appropriate to our satellite experiment, i.e., the case of altitudes from 200 to 1200 miles altitude. I had started Melvin Schwartz and Robert Lynch on this problem during the summer. ---------------------------- 1 September 1956 ---- Thomas' first birthday -- has taken a few unaided steps during past few days. 3 September -- "Labor Day" Large beach party and picnic party with family movies in the evening (held in new room).
