of various parts of it from about 1:30-2:00 A.M. Very clear, moonless night. A very striking overhead corona which about 2:00[ PM ?]was some 25 degrees off to the south of Iowa City. Long streaks and irregular patches leading up toward the zenith. Also rapidly changing patterns, resembling more-or-less horizontal searchlight beams sweeping across the sky. Also wave-like undulations. During the period 1:30-2:30, beautiful pink colored stripe of light in western sky ! [sketch/picture including SW, W, NE] Color changed slowly (over some minutes from pale pearl color to rather bright pink -- slowly waxed and waned. The display in the western sky extended down to the horizon and upwards to 30 degrees above
