1/14/1958 On last Thursday 9 January 1958, Frank McDonald had his first Cloverleaf (Nike - Asp) firing at W.S.P.G. The project in collaboration with Cooper Dev. Co & Convair The firing was at about 8 : 30 AM/MST. At ~2.7 seconds, telemetering & Dovap signals ceased abruptly, (i.e. during the boost period) The Asp flew on up in the air and appeared to ignite at about the proper time but did not thrust. Fell back more or less listlessly and made a huge explosion upon impact. The lack of thrust indicates nozzle damaged. Loss of TM and Dovap indicated severe mechanical maltreatment during the
