3/17/58 A call from Ed. Manring at AFCRC: Re Explorer I, erosion gauges: 1) During launching phase two wire gauges were broken. 2) Up till 23 Feb. a maximum of one further gauge has been severed (Perhaps more) 3) Hence, flux of meteoritic particles of diameter > 10 microns is ≤ 0.001/m squared x sec. 4) This is a much lower flux than reported by Berg and Meradith - (who were apparently measuring much smaller particles.
