3/17/58 Call from Homer Newell 1) Vanguard Test Vehicle (TV -4) successfully launched at 0616 C.S.T. this morning. 2) All three propulsion stages worked "perfectly" as did the guidance system. 3) Injection alt. ~400 miles 4) Perigee alt. 400 5) Apogee alt. 2400 6) Period 135 minutes 7) Inclination 33 degrees 8) Burned out velocity 27,000 ft/sec, which is 2000 ft/sec excess over circular velocity. 9) [Ordinary?] life time estimate ~100 yrs.
