7/17/1959 Heard from Geo. Ludwig, calling from Cape Canaveral last night. An inverter failure in the Juno II. - lost power to the first stage guidance system. - Blown up by range safety officer Payload found but had been subjected to extreme heat. All of the plastic burned out of the fiber glass electronic boards for example, leaving only the fiber. No definite plans for a back-up flight as yet but a meeting will be held this morning. Also George will consult on 19A. with ABMA. people who are at the Cape.
