20 October 1959 A line of thought which may develop to be fruitful, though no definite, critically justifiable conclusions are evident so far : 1. Aurorae are only rarely observed near the geomagnetic poles! 2. If aurorae are due to direct arrival of solar gas it is not evident why there should not be. {Vide, however, Chapman and Ferraro [on? in?]ward horns of plasma!} {Also Stoermer orbits!} 3. Therefore (?), aurorae must be due to local acceleration of trapped particles. (??)
