4/9/60 Sputnik III was reported to have "died" on Wednesday morning (6 April 1960) by National Space Surveillance Control Center at Bedford, Massachusetts. Not clear from the newspaper story whether the satellite was thought to have entered the atmosphere. Announcement indicated only that the transmitter had gone off the air. - [launched 15 May 1958]
